# Troubleshooting

> Use logs, validation and step-level retry to diagnose installer failures without restarting the entire workflow.

# Troubleshooting

Start with the failed layer instead of rerunning everything.

## 1. Read the installer log

The common log records step boundaries and command execution results. See **[State & Logs](https://kvm.xdr.ooo/reference/state-logs.md)** for locations.

## 2. Run Full Configuration Validation

Validation can reveal missing packages, unavailable libvirt resources, networking prerequisites, image problems or configuration mismatches.

## 3. Re-run only the failed step

Use **Execute Specific Step** after correcting the issue. Because the installers are step-based, a failure does not require a full reinstall.

## Common checks

### Virtualization / IOMMU

Verify CPU virtualization support and IOMMU status before passthrough-dependent steps.

### libvirt

Confirm the libvirt service, VM definitions and virtual networks are present and healthy.

### Host networking

Review interfaces, addresses and routes before and after network conversion.

### Storage

Review disks, physical volumes, volume groups and logical volumes before provisioning.

## Recovery principle

Do not force state forward. Preserve logs, correct the failing prerequisite, and re-run the specific step.
